Fri 2023-10-20 Doheny 2ft waves
Eventful day because I lost my GoPro. Good 2ft waves. A little crowded maybe because it is Friday. Caught 6-8 waves in 1 hour. I collided with an experienced surfer with a hat and a red board. He apologized profusely even though I was probably in his way and asked if I was hurt. I wasn't but I noticed that my GoPro with the surf mount had fallen clean off my 9ft max. He was even more apologetic after I mentioned that I lost my camera. He offered to try to feel for it with his toes 🤣. The area was too large to search and we had to get out of the way of other surfers barrelling towards us. I caught one really good wave before that happened that I'm pretty sure was a green wave, and there was another surfer riding the same wave and he even commented "that was a good one"🏄! I caught that one on camera but it is lost to the sea now. I thought about coming back with a mask and looking for it. I couldn't focus on surfing afterwards as my thoughts kept going back to the lost camera. After getting home, I was on the phone with a GoPro rep for a while trying get some discount on a replacement. But I need to let all of that go 🙏. I had some great footage from that camera. I will buy a new one and I will have even more awesome footage on the water and during diving in the future. I now know GoPro subscription does not cover lost cameras and also the adhesive mounts cannot be trusted. Expensive but a good lesson learned. There were some quiet moments without many swells and there was a father or instructor with two young girls. He told one of the girls to reach down and push the button because the wave machine had stopped. Ah levity 🤣!
